Kazurabashi ...Vine Bridge

We knew that Ebi-san would have to work so we were delighted when she took the day off (bosses get to do that). She also commandeered her daughter, Hanaka, to come along with us as interpreter, a necessary job to keep us all on the right track.
Our first stop was Kazurabashi, a vine bridge that spans the deep river Iyagawa gorge that flows through here. At one time, these bridges were the only way to cross the river and would be cut to prevent invaders from crossing. The skill for making the bridges hasn’t been lost…it has to be rebuilt every three years! Note the reflection of the bridge in the water.
